SYMPHYTUM Officinalis, or knit-bone, as the common name suggests, is of great use in wounds penetrating to the bones, and in non-union or slow union of fractures. Its actual use comes in when the bone or the periosteum – the fiborous sheath covering bones contains the blood vessels and nerves that provide nourishment and sensation to the bones – has been injured and the soft parts have recovered from the bruised soreness under Arnica (a homoeopathic medicine). The remaining pain and soreness of the periosteum may be promptly relieved by Symphytum and would also quicken the union of fractures. Symphytum is helpful when pain persists in old or healed fractures.

Calcarea Phos is of great use in fractures of old people and where the healing of the fractures is slowed down by deficient nutrition to the bone.

Silicea works well to strengthen the brittle and weak bones that are easily fractured.

Arnica Montana comes into use when there has been an injury to soft parts due to a fall or by a blunt-weapon hurt that results in a blackish-bluish discolouration.

The principal condition for the use of Hypericum is injury to nerves, recent or remote. Finger-ends or toes may have been bruised or lacerated, or a nail may have been torn off, or when a nerve has become “pinched” between a hammer and the bone by a blow, and the pain can be traced up along the nerve, and it is found extending towards the body from the injured part. If indicated, 30 C potency of the above-mentioned medicines can be taken four times a day until substantial relief occurs.
